CAREL have announced the appointment of Michael Leach within their Climate Division with responsibility for Applied Products and Technical Solutions. Michael, a well-known face within the design sector of the energy solutions industry, brings over 30 years of experience to open up this sector for CAREL UK’s offering, which he feels has previously been undersold.“I want people to think climate and automatically think of CAREL,” he says.

His most recent role was at ESG as a technical consultant promoting energy management. When the company shifted from a building controls supplier to an energy management company following a series of acquisitions, Michael was recruited to create enterprise value by repositioning them, clarifying their offering and bringing in new customers. Clearly he succeeded: they were bought by SSE Group, a FTSE100 company, in August this year.

Michael Leach’s appointment at CAREL, which follows last year’s arrival of Nigel Hillier as National Sales Manager – Climate Division, is a clear indication of the company’s commitment to the specification market.

Bob Cowlard, Managing Director, says: “We are delighted to welcome Michael to the team. This is an exciting time for our Climate division. His extensive technical sales experience and background in this sector means he understands the dilemma of the consultants and can talk their language. We are looking forward to developing a much larger presence in the specification market and delivering on our plans for strong growth in the UK.”

Michael is excited about his new role: “Historically CAREL have excellent relationships with end users in the controls and refrigeration sectors and with OEMs but their climate solutions are less well-known with mechanical designers. We have superb HVAC, cooling and humidification, however they have largely been undersold in this market.

“My role is to raise awareness of CAREL and build relationships with consultants, but also to open up wider conversations about improving efficiency and quality through our solutions, service and support.

“Gone are the days when the industry had time for lunch and to shoot the breeze with consultants. Now there is constant pressure to get on with real projects and it is all about taking their pain away. That’s where we will come into our own: We have the right solutions, excellent specifications and efficiency performance - and we offer great value for money. When you add our design support, service and training to the mix we present a really attractive package for the specification market. Whether it is a turnkey or designed solution, we offer a complete ‘hands on’ service.

“I want CAREL to be the first point of call for climate.”

Although this is a new focus for the company, he is expecting the role to grow quickly as brand awareness increases.

From a personal perspective Michael says: “I am looking forward to the challenge of building up something new here from such potential. It’s a great team and there is a strong sense that CAREL UK is really going places -a genuine buzz and impetus in the company.”

Michael’s love for engineering kicked in when he began his working life as an apprentice engineer at British Gas. During his career, which has included amongst others, a commercial role at BP, he completed a Diploma in Marketing and a Business Management Degree, which more than qualifies him to lead this new focus.
