Dr Shaun Fitzgerald wrote an article on avoiding cold draughts for the CIBSE natural ventilation group's September newsletter. The problem lies in the fact most schools rely on windows being open to allow fresh air in; however, cold draughts often see them closed for months on end. We have always been particularly involved with the CIBSE natural ventilation group. The group is an international group comprising 30 committee members from industry and academia serving a wider membership of 7520. The aims of the group are:

  • To ensure natural ventilation is properly considered at the design stage equally with mechanical ventilation or air conditioning.
  • To disseminate knowledge via seminars, publications, and the internet.
  • To recommend research projects.
  • To be at the forefront of knowledge of the low energy, environmental, and economic performance of natural ventilation.
  • To work with consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and researchers in pursuing these aims.
In the September edition of the CIBSE Nat Vent newsletter, Shaun Fitzgerald presents his thoughts on the avoidance of draughts in schools classrooms.

Our team of engineers have also designed a method of calculating cold draughts. The Cold Draught Calulator ask for several piece of information about the room and then produces a graph explaining the results.
