Airedale Wins ‘Commercial Building Services Product of the Year’ in 2014 H&V News Awards

Air Conditioning - IT Cooling - Air Handling - Climate Control

Cooling specialist, Airedale International, has scooped this year’s H&V News award for ‘Commercial Building Services Product of the Year’ for its SmartCool™ SD/SN/SR high efficiency dedicated chilled water (CW) precision air conditioning (PAC) system.

The awards, now in their 20th year, celebrate the hard work and dedication of those who work within the building services industry and were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on 24 April 2014.

The SmartCool™ CW SD/SN/SR (11-233kW) was developed to meet demand for an ultra-efficient, dedicated chilled water PAC system that delivers extremely quiet and accurate climate control for critical data centre applications.

A completely fresh approach to design to maximise the heat exchange area and improve cooling performance allows the SmartCool™ CW to deliver up to 30% more cooling kW/m² when compared with competitor units.

The SmartCool™ SN/SR uses an innovative V-frame heat exchanger arrangement, positioned across the width rather than the depth of the unit, to deliver a high coil face area and accessible filters which can be placed on the face of the coil, improving air flow through the unit and significantly reducing air-side pressure drop.

The location of fans in the floor void on the SmartCool™ SD allows for a larger slab coil arrangement which provides a 15% increase in surface area for improved air flow. Efficiency is further increased by locating the filters on the face of the coils, increasing the surface area and reducing air-side pressure drop when lowering fan power.

The SmartCool™ CW has an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of up to 52.4, 13% higher than leading competitor units and, when integrated with an Airedale free-cooling chiller, will deliver energy saving free cooling for up to 95%¹ of the year.

Commenting on the win, Managing Director, Clive Parkman (pictured) said: “New product development is an on-going process at Airedale and represents a significant investment from all parts of the business. This is because we recognise its importance in being able to offer the highest performing products that allow us to compete so effectively on a global scale.

“We are delighted to have won this award which recognises our headline commitment to reducing ownership costs and carbon footprint for our data centre customers.”
